Amplify Announces New Tablet Designed by Intel® Education

Combines Innovative System for Digital Learning With More Rugged Device

(AUSTIN, Texas, March 3, 2014) Amplify today announced a collaboration with Intel Education to offer a more ruggedized tablet built for K-12 education. Available for the 2014-2015 school year, the new tablet features a durable industrial design that can withstand drops and spills; a break- and scratch-resistant screen made of Corning® Gorilla® Glass; an advanced Wi-Fi radio; and a tethered stylus. The new device is part of the Amplify Tablet System, which also includes instructional software, K-12 content and implementation support.

“We realized that, while we’d built the world’s best platform for mobile learning using anyone’s content, we needed to come up with a device that was ready for the physical demands of the school environment,” said Amplify CEO Joel Klein. “That’s exactly what we’ve done with this new tablet.”

“We’re committed to giving teachers and students both world-class devices and cutting-edge instructional tools,” said Stephen Smyth, president of the Amplify Access division, which develops the Amplify Tablet System. “Our collaboration with Intel Education will allow us to do that better than ever before.”

“This new tablet was built specifically for education, for students and their teachers, and we’re pleased that Amplify will use it to bring their unique education solution to the U.S. market,” said John Galvin, vice president of Intel’s Sales & Marketing Group and general manager of Intel Education. “Together, we are working to advance excellence in education worldwide.”

The Amplify Tablet designed by Intel Education features an advanced, dual-band dual-antenna (2 x 2 MIMO) Wi-Fi radio that boosts connectivity and helps solve the challenges of in-school connectivity faced by older devices. The tablet is powered by a dual-core Intel® Atom™ Processor Z2580 running at 2.0 GHz with Android™ 4.2. It includes Bluetooth, a powerful 8100 mAh battery that can last the whole school day and beyond, and Miracast-compatible wireless display. The new device comes equipped with two cameras: a 1.3-megapixel front camera and a 5-megapixel autofocus rear camera.

The tablet will be available for summer teacher training, in time for the start of the 2014-15 school year. Pricing for the Amplify Tablet System—including the tablet, software, content and support—will be $199 per year for three years (additional leasing fees apply); other purchase options are also available.

About the Amplify Tablet System

The Amplify Tablet System is the most complete digital learning system designed for K-12. It provides districts and schools with an integrated yet open solution for starting or scaling a 1:1 initiative, including: the tablet, software, content and support.

Tablet

In addition to the ruggedized Amplify Tablet designed by Intel Education, students and teachers receive a durable case that protects the screen and an external keyboard for easy text entry.

Software

The Amplify Tablet System connects directly with a district’s student information system to provide easy provisioning and personalization of student and teacher tablets. Students gain a mobile learning device that is organized around their classes and that features a host of productivity and creation tools they can use to show their knowledge using rich media. For teachers, the tablet comes packed with exclusive, easy-to-use instructional tools that help them plan digital lessons, prepare quizzes, share multimedia resources and quickly check students’ understanding in class. Tools like Eyes on Teacher and App Blocker also make it easy to manage all of the students’ tablets during class.

Content

The Amplify Tablet is preloaded with third-party education content and tools, including: CK-12 e-textbooks, Desmos graphing calculator, Encyclopaedia Britannica, EverFi’s digital literacy curriculum, Geogebra, Google Apps for Education, Merriam-Webster Dictionary, Project Noah science tools, public domain e-books and the Gooru education search engine. The tablet’s open platform can also easily integrate with teacher-generated curricula and with any publisher’s curriculum selected by a district.

Support

To ensure that classrooms and schools have a successful tablet experience, Amplify provides districts with a dedicated, on-site resource to serve as a single point of contact with the district from program launch through implementation. Before tablets enter the classroom, teachers, principals and tech staff receive high-quality, customized professional development. Educators also have access to ongoing customer support by phone and email as well as an online community of tablet users across the country.

The Amplify Tablet System also includes a Web-based device management platform built for K-12 that allows school administrators to provision, configure, lock or wipe an entire fleet of devices over the air 24 hours a day, seven days a week. To make sure students access only age-appropriate materials, Amplify provides tools that allow districts and schools to enforce their own Internet policies, execute local content controls and provide safe at-home browsing.
