This customer transaction data repository is essentially at the heart of any CRM system. ......................... Tags: cloud-computing, IT Pro A greater number of people, worldwide are using SaaS then ever before, mobile products, tablets – especially the iPad – is growing at a feverish pace, people are using online storage, beyond just placing photos and media, and open source is continuing expansion. Each one of these features could be implemented into systems in six months or less. Each one is available today on the Internet for free and these types of products are gaining mass in the global market. Your end users make up that mass, and a statement I hear often is that people aren’t staying in the systems to fully benefit from it. These features can change that. I frequently read cloud computing sceptics talking about the security issue of cloud technologies. Having worked for both the biggest security software vendor as well as a well-known SaaS company, I know for a fact that the level of investments in terms of security done by (serious) SaaS vendors has no match in the world of IT. IT is a cost center and budgets have their limits. This also affects the security department even if prioritized over functional teams. On the other hand, SaaS security is a revenue center department. All investments are made on behalf of all the customers and thanks to scale savings, the more customers are sharing the same platform, the more money is put into securing the whole thing. In almost every single new customer deal, a SaaS vendor will be asked about security, customers will visit the data centers and scrutinize the external security audit documents... As such you can expect that all SaaS customers are happy to find as good or better security... read full post Tags: Cloud Computing, Security Due to its access model (via an internet connection), cloud computing fade away the need for the old fashioned concept of office: a building packed with employees sharing the same resources in particular the computing power... When I was a consultant working on servers software, I had to be at the customer site to do my work. Now that I have moved to SaaS, I can limit my contacts with the customer to a couple of face to face meetings and do my work from the office, from home, from an hotel room, etc... In the same way, I can easily involve a colleague and get remote help really quickly. So, because cloud computing is location agnostic it simplifies outsourcing or off-shoring, as long as a good enough internet connectivity exists. As soon as the SaaS application is implemented, it's really easy to add external users: outsourcing, off-shoring... Robin Wilding in her recent post (see below) shows the big picture and how cloud computing will help the developing parts of the wor... read full post |
