It was the mother of all glitches Monday when public broadcaster CBC News reported results and even interviewed a winning candidate from the Maritimes an hour before Elections Canada’s media blackout was lifted.

TV viewers across Canada watched in disbelief just after 9 p.m. as anchors Peter Mansbridge and Wendy Mesley gave out numbers from the Maritime provinces and even spoke with an elected candidate.

The mistake was discovered about five minutes later and a graphic went up reading “Sorry, we’re experiencing technical difficulties. Please stand by.”

CBC released a statement about the glitch.

"CBC experienced a technical error which resulted in early election results from Eastern Canada being broadcast on CBC News Network," said the public broadcaster in a statement. "The error was resolved within several minutes and normally scheduled programming resumed."
