Google's November 2011 algorithm update puts an even bigger emphasis on fresh content. Participation in social media is not only a great way to provide content snippet updates but to get more attention for your local listing. The recent study by Mediative shows that with strong social signals, you can fare well even if you are not the number one local listing. This means that getting lots of reviews and votes really does make a difference. What then is the reason so few companies create more robust local listings? Lack of time and know-how (even though it is easy) is my guess. What do you think?

We started concentrating on local SEO last summer before the big Google local changes. You need an SEO provider that is so geeked out they try to anticipate organic search engine changes before they occur. Google places just makes sense from a search engine point of view. ( a kid robot)

Clint Boulton at Google Watch has been keeping his eyes peeled and this is the first mention of the new product from Google, Google Profiles for Businesses. This is part of Google Local expansion and also ties into some ideas about the social web. Google already changed its profiles layout and information recently so if you haven't looked at your own profile in a while this may be a good time.
