Freecycling is stuck in a 1995-6 email / Yahoo!groups / computer mode. If it hopes to engage the next generation, things need to progress. Social media, mobile technology must become part of the every day infrastructure.

As baby boomer entrepreneurs, we have great challenges to overcome. Edmund Hillary's overcoming the challenge of climbing Mt. Everest can be encouragement to us as we climb to our peaks in life.

Please see my personal note on how meeting Hillary as a child was inspiration to me.

This is the month that music lives for. Rejoice in the sound of music and live as if tomorrow will never come for today you have song and wine and of course U2, rejoice life is full of laughter and sorrow and yet tomorrow is not far off if you believe in yesterday.

America is one short step behind Europe.. Expect a culture war to occur and whenever it is addressed, the race card is carefully played out, neutralizing opposition groups.. Methodically, working to overturn our individual freedoms and rights to express ourselves.

We are entering an Orwellian era, where good is bad, and bad is good. Our politicians are playing right along, unscrupulous enjoying their game, 'Islam and Slavery' the devil's game against humanity..

The focus of organisational change interventions moves away from ‘planning change’ and onto ‘facilitating emergence’. Most change agents seem to have a much more mechanical view of themselves—how can you be a good consultant, how can you re-engineer or fix an organisation, if you don’t have a full ‘tool kit’? This is the complement of the prevailing metaphor of ‘organisation as machine’ which has been around since the time of Taylor and Fayol (Morgan 1997). It implies that the change agent can stand outside the system, diagnose and understand its working parts and then intervene to redesign it to operate in a more effective way.

The complex systems approach invites us to work in the system, to give up the illusion that we can comprehend its complexity and to adopt more modest aims. One approach is that adopted by Patricia Shaw and Bill Critchley. They choose to work both formally and informally in organisations helping people have conversations which they migh... read full post

Stock futures are wallowing down about 1%.

Update: Ah, 1%. That was a pleasant selloff in retrospect.

Oh but how I do hate to be such a persistent downer... To lighten the mood, here's a monkey riding a goat.

A naughty monkey wants to ride on a goat, which was busy with its kids. After many tries, the monkey climbs on the goat and rides it. The result is a bucking rodeo ride. The goat doesn’t want to be a part of the game. It has other things on its mind.

(I'm sure there's some economic metaphor to be crafted here.)

In case you're already on G+, I didn't want you to miss out on this, it's that important. Even if you're not on yet, take the time to click through and look at these screen shots, etc., this is a complete game-changer and may get you to consider using G+. Did I mention this was important... :)

Since Adam's Smith's famous metaphor of the “Invisible Hand,” economists in the classical liberal tradition have known that decentralized, competitive capitalism harnesses the self-interest of ambitious and talented individuals. Rather than using their powers to dominate others, extraordinary individuals in a free-market setting stay up worrying at night about how to please their customers.

In contrast, the government bureaucrat doesn’t have the same incentive structure.

A sophisticated critic might agree that in general, markets outperform government agencies. However, the critic could argue that this general presumption fails when it comes to energy markets, because of the threat of climate change. Here—the argument goes—capitalism’s normally efficient outcome is perverted, because businesses and consumers aren’t taking into account the impact of their actions on future generations.

Even if we accept the basic premise of “market failure,” we must balance... read full post

The godless collective of little blue fellows in eternal battle with heavenly forces (Gargamel and Azrael) are about to get their own movie. This is probably part of the Fabianist conspiracy.

Okay — so we don't always have to be serious. It's about time I found a good use for some of the internet jokes that appear on the e-mail in box. 1. Verbs HAS to agree with their subjects. 2. Prepositions are not words to end sentences with. 3. And don't start a sentence with a conjunction. 4. It is wrong to ever split an infinitive. 5. Avoid cliches like the plague. (They're old hat) 6. Also, always avoid annoying alliteration. 7. Be more or less specific. 8. Parenthetical remarks (however ... read full post
