Basically, there is a way to forward a domain name to a real website and communicate to search engine robots that the change is permanent. This is known as a 301 redirect. Of course, it isn't really permanent, as the domain owner can undo the redirect whenever he or she wants. The problem arises with a little formula Google came up with called pagerank, which is supposed to be a measure of a web page's authority relative to all other web pages. In basic terms, it estimates the quantity, quality and relevance of incoming links for your webpages. The higher the PageRank the higher is a probability that the site has some quality backlinks. The last Google PageRank update was in January 2011, so it’s been almost 6 months between updates. Until this year pagerank updates were pretty stable – usually you could see a new update every 3-4 months. That pagerank update was related to the introduction of the new parameter in Google SERP placement algorithm known as Google Panda. It was like unleashing the floodgates. Some sites that had been working for a year at PR0 suddenly became PR4. Most people were likely happy with the sudden love from Google.
