Larry Berger: Promising Directions for Personalized Learning in 2019 and Beyond

Tuesday, January 29th
12:00 – 12:40 p.m.
South Concourse Room 320BC

What is personalized learning? We’ve all heard the buzz about it, but what does it actually mean and what can it look like in your school or district?

Hear from an ed tech veteran who has worked on various kinds of personalized learning models and recently caused a stir in EdWeek and beyond when he questioned the effectiveness of the current prevailing “engineering model.”

Larry Berger, CEO of Amplify, will explain how the engineering model of personalization works (and its limitations) and dive into several other personalized learning models, many of which your teachers may already be implementing in low-tech ways.

The question becomes: how can technology help support and scale the kinds of personalized instruction good teachers do every day in their classrooms?

Join Larry for a provocative session that will transform the way you think about personalized learning!

Michele Hart: Assessment for Student Progress, Not an Evaluative End

Wednesday, January 30th
8:00 – 10:30 a.m.
South Concourse Room 330D

As the saying goes, “The proof is in the pudding,” and the reality of schools today is that the pudding is usually test scores. There is pressure, more now than ever, for students to perform at a certain level when it comes to standardized tests. Just as a well-rounded middle school curriculum empowers students, it should also empower teachers.

In this session, we will go beyond the diagnostic to share key digital strategies that inform teachers and administrators of student progress. We will share how Amplify ELA incorporates formative assessment opportunities at every click, creating a more complete and accurate view of student performance.
