Why fractions?

Fractions are critical for math success.

A research team led by Carnegie Mellon University’s Robert Siegler found that 5th graders’ understanding of fractions and division predicted high school students’ knowledge of algebra and overall math achievement and that U. S. students’ inadequate knowledge of fractions and division is a major source of the stagnant growth in the subject.

How it works

It begins with a story.

A variety of quirky stories provide the foundation for real-world problems that can only be solved with an understanding of different fractions skills.

Lessons that adapt to individual students

Individual fractions skills are taught through episodes, which are pairs of story-driven, adaptive lessons and practice. Students work with digital manipulatives and scenario-based problems that seamlessly adapt to provide additional instruction and support where needed.

A digital tutor along for the ride

Students receive the feedback a tutor would give, right there on the screen, through our digital tutor who talks and draws on their screen, using the same manipulatives from the lesson. Whenever students get stuck, there’s always a helping hand.

Practice makes perfect

Accompanying every lesson, a practice experience allows each student to keep their fractions skills sharp and showcase their understanding.

Testimonials

My students were super-engaged using Amplify Fractions, plus they said they learned a lot about fractions.
5th grade teacher, Colorado

I tried to get my 4th graders to stop Amplify Fractions, but they said “NO NO NO just a few more minutes."
4th grade teacher, Georgia

All my students were engaged with the programs and with 6th graders that is an accomplishment! When I asked them, the students all believed the program had helped them understand the concepts of fractions. Plus they enjoyed the storylines.
